BAE Systems has won a contract valued $401 million to supply 160 Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicles (AMPVs) to the US Army.
“BAE Systems Land & Armaments LP, Sterling Heights, Michigan, was awarded $400.9 million modification contract to procure 160 armored multi-purpose vehicles,” the US Department of Defense said in a statement Tuesday.
The Army originally awarded the contract for five different variants of the AMPVs in 2014, which was modified in February 2019. The variants include a general purpose vehicle for troop transport, along with mission command, mortar carrier, medical evacuation and medical treatment versions.
It plans to buy 2,897 of these vehicles at a total cost of $11.7 billion, to replace Vietnam War-era M113s. The AMPVs will operate alongside the M1 Abrams Tank and the M2 Bradley as part of the rest of the Armored Bridgade Combat Team (ABCT).
Work is expected to be completed by February 28, 2023.
