Local production of the S-400 air defence system (ADS) in India is not provided in the purchase contract between India and Russia worth $5.4 Billion.
“Localization of S-400 production in India has not been included in the contract,” Dmitry Shugayev, head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS), was quoted as saying Russian defense ministry-owned Zvezda TV on Monday.
This is one of the few occasions when local manufacture of parts or assembly in India is not part of an Indo-Russian arms deal.
Deliveries of S-400s to India will begin next year. “The delivery of the first regiment set is scheduled before the end of 2021. We plan to deliver all systems before the end of 2024,” Shugayev said.
