Thales has announced a contract to modernize Thailand’s air traffic management at Singapore Airshow 2014, starting from today.

Recently, Thales’s LORADS III system has entered into service with Singapore. Thales will deliver a complete nationwide Air Traffic Management system to Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (Aerothai).

The system, called Thailand Modernization CNS/ATM System (TMCS), will provide Aerothai’s air traffic controllers with the world’s latest technology. Based on the Thales TopSky-ATC system, the system will allow Aerothai to manage the ever-increasing air traffic in Thailand’s airspace by enabling enhanced inter-operability with neighbouring countries, thus achieving the ASEAN- and ICAO-sponsored Seamless Asian Sky harmonisation.

Thales’s TopSky-ATC features multiple levels of contingency and back-up, allowing it to efficiently service the national en-route air traffic control centre, the six approach control centres, and allowing the TopSky-Tower to manage 41 regional airport towers, as well as providing an enhanced TopSky-Arrival/Departure Manager and a TopSky-Simulator to train air traffic controllers.

“2014 is proving to be a seminal year for Thales ATM. The award of the TMCS contract cements Thales as Asia’s dominant air traffic management provider. A result of the highly successful cooperation between Thales and Aerothai in Bangkok International Airport’s ATM segment, which has earned us their continued trust, TMCS will be a key regional ATM system, implementing advanced, interoperable, highly reliable and efficient gate-to-gate systems,” said Adam Burford, Vice President Thales Air Traffic Management business, Australia.
