Sweden Terminates Planned German-Submarine Deal
The Swedish government has terminated the plans to purchase two submarines from the German firm Kockums, according to Swedish Television News.
In the spring budget, the government intends to note that the conditions are not right for a deal with the company, which is owned by the German group ThyssenKrupp.
But the government still has a need for two new submarines and two existing submarines to be modernized. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has already ordered a preliminary study from Saab, on whether this company could do the job instead.
According to the report, Saab has already been recruiting submarine engineers from Kockums, while ThyssenKrupp is offering them bonuses to try to get them to stay in the company.
