India Successfully Test Launches Three BVRAAM Systems From Su-30MKI

Indian Minister of Defense today announced in Parliament the successful air launch trials of three visual range air-to-air missile system, Astra were conducted from Su-30 Mk-I aircraft during May-June 2014.

Missile control, guidance, long range capability and safe separation of missile from the aircraft have been demonstrated successfully, he said.

So far, 10 numbers of Akash, a medium range surface-to-air missile system have been successfully tested by the Army and Air Force during 2014. The tests were conducted in different target engagement configurations using production batch equipment and missiles.

At present, there is no such proposal to export Akash Missile System. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has been mandated to develop state-of-the-art missile for the use of our Armed Forces. Production agencies are involved in production and delivery of Missile to Armed Forces as per their requirements.
