Brazilian Delegation To Evaluate Russia's Pantsir-S1 SAM

A Brazilian delegation consisting of nine military officers of the Ministry of Defense embarked Tuesday to Russia in order to carrying out additional assessments of the Pantsir-S1 medium-range air-defence system.

The Brazilian group will participate in a field exercise of the Russian armed forces, when can verify in loco requirements considered essential for the acquisition process, started in 2013, and has continued to enter into their contractual stage, according to a Brazilian MoD statement.

"We have to do the verification of operational requirements in the field of evidence, where all procedures are controlled and can be analyzed accurately. We will have access to data and telemetry,” Gershon Machado, Head of Head of Logistics, Defence Ministry said.

According to Machado, Brazil's goal is to have, the medium term, technological and industrial capacity to develop own flak batteries. "That's why our acquisition process has to be meticulous. We will not just buy a product. We want to be partners in development ".

The acquisition process has passed through the diagnostic and exploratory phases. Now, lies at the end of the negotiation phase. After the visit of the Brazilian military to Russia, If all requirements are approved, Brazilian officials enter the contract stage with the Russia.

The procedure for the acquisition of the Pantsir-S1 systems was initiated in February 2013, when the two countries signed a Declaration of Intent. The document stipulated that the purchase process will be characterized by the effective and unrestricted transfer of technology; the joint development of new products; integrated logistics and sustainability.
