India Retracts Tender For 197 Light Helicopters, Clears Other Major Deals

The Indian Defence Ministry on Friday retracted a tender to procure 197 light choppers worth $1.5 billion which had been put on hold which has been on hold due to an ongoing bribery investigation.

The decision was reportedly taken during a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley. 

Meanwhile the government today cleared proposals worth over Rs 17,500 crore including for midlife upgrade of submarines, 16 multi role helicopters worth Rs 1800 crore for Navy. The bid will be opened soon as two vendors have been shortlisted, according to reports.

The DAC also approved Army communications system worth Rs 900 crores, which would provide dedicated mobile systems for 3 corps, 4 corps and 14 corps.
