Symantec Hires 65 Engineers From Narus, Boeing’s Cybersecurity Subsidary

Symantec has entered in an agreement with Boeing’s cybersecurity subsidiary, Narus to hire 65 engineers and data scientists and licensing technology after Boeing decided to close down its commercial cybersecurity business.

Boeing however, will continue the cybersecurity services for government and defense customers.

Symantec chief technology officer Amit Mital wrote in a blog post Monday, “The agreement with Boeing will bring expertise in machine learning, security, big data analytics and networking to Symantec to help us develop our platform.”

Boeing had earlier bought Narus in 2010. Narus, operated as a wholly owned subsidiary within in the aerospace company’s Boeing Defense, Space & Security unit until December 2014 and had over 150 employees.

“When we acquired Narus there was an expectation of a number of commercial opportunities for cybersecurity business. Those didn’t develop as expected, so we looked for another way to leverage that (intellectual property),” Boeing spokesman Andrew H. Lee was quoted as saying by Wall Street Journal.
