Milestone C has certified US Army and Lockheed Martin’s Vehicle Optics Sensor System (VOSS) program as the standard sensor package on mine resistant ambush-protected vehicles.
The final certification is required for transition of quick reaction capability to a program of record, Lockheed said in a statement Monday.
Milestone C certification enables VOSS to become a program of record in fiscal year 2015. Lockheed Martin provides engineering, production and sustainment support to the program.
VOSS provides ‘on-the-move’, 360-degree surveillance and explosive hazard detection capability for route clearance and reconnaissance missions. It includes high resolution color, night vision and thermal sensors in a stabilized 15-inch turret. The mast-mounted system has been used in combat with a 97 percent operational readiness rate in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"For more than eight years, Lockheed Martin has supported the urgent operational needs of the U.S. Army with VOSS' mission critical surveillance capabilities," said Dana Rocca, turreted systems director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.
"It has been through close partnership with the US Army that we were able to achieve this important milestone and keep vital technology in the hands of the warfighter", Rocca added.
