Russia has repealed its ban on delivery of long range Surface-to-air S-300 missile systems to Iran, Kremlin said in a statement Monday.

Russia had cancelled advanced S-300 ground to air missiles delivery contract, citing UN sanctions imposed over Tehran's nuclear programme. Former President Dmitry Medvedev had introduced the ban in 2010.

A decree signed by Putin will lift the ban on the S-300 shipment from Russia to Tehran, Kremlin said.

“Decree removes the prohibition on transit movement through the territory of the Russian Federation (including air), removal from the territory of the Russian Federation to the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the transfer of the Islamic Republic of Iran outside the Russian Federation with the use of ships and aircraft under the State Flag of the Russian Federation zenith missile systems S-300,” Kremlin stated.
