US Navy will be spending an estimated $681 million over the next ten years on the Tactical Data Links research and development program, Forecast International reported Tuesday.

Tactical datalinks are communications systems that support the near real-time exchange of data. The goal of the Tactical Data Links program is to develop and improve the Navy's tactical datalink systems. The US Navy's need to exchange information instantly is driving FI's funding forecast.

FI's projected funding for the Tactical Data Links program peaks from FY15 through FY17, with an average of approximately $132 million a year during that timeframe.
