The US Coast Guard has selected Sagem’s BlueNaute heading reference system to upgrade 12 of its Juniper WLB class vessels.
Sagem announced Wednesday that BlueNaute reference system is based on hemispherical resonator gyros, a proprietary technology designed to give the BlueNaute high reliability and precise measurements.
The BlueNaute's inertial core offers more advantage in terms of total cost of ownership and performance over the previous generation of inertial technologies, especially fibre-optic and mechanical models.
The BlueNaute's mean time between failures exceeds 100,000 hours and it is suitable for use in coast guard or police missions, offshore operations, scientific missions and at-sea searches.
USCGC Juniper (WLB-201) is the lead ship of the US Coast Guard's seagoing buoy tenders. It assisted in the recovery operations after the crashes of TWA Flight 800 and Egypt Air 990. It also had participated in anti-terrorist and force protection operations in New York immediately after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
