An advanced version of BRAHMOS land-attack cruise missile was successfully test fired on Friday to revalidate the weapon’s precision strike capability.

The land-to-land configuration of BRAHMOS Block – III version was launched from a Mobile Autonomous Launcher (MAL) for its full-range of 290-kms, Brahmos Aerospace announced on Friday.

The flight successfully hit the designated land-based target with accuracy, meeting the parameters including high level manoeuvers, officials confirmed. The launch was the 47th test-firing of BRAHMOS.

"Today BRAHMOS LACM has been tested in the Eastern Sector. The test has once again established our missile as an incredibly lethal weapon with pin-point accuracy to take on enemy targets anywhere.” Sudhir Mishra, CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace said.

The flight was witnessed by Additional Director General Artillery along with many senior officers from the Indian Army & Indian Air Force.

The variants of the BrahMos has been tested extensively. Its penetration capabilities had been demonstrated in the past at sea when a single BrahMos cruise missile was able to effectively pierce the hull of a free-floating ship, destroying it entirely.

The deep penetration block-III variant expands this capability greatly, allowing the BrahMos to destroy reinforced targets.

The missile can be installed on ships, submarines, aircraft and ground vehicles. BrahMos missiles are inducted in to the armed forces of India and Russia and can also be exported to friendly nations.
