Northrop Grumman announced Wednesday that it has delivered its 500th AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING targeting pod in the G4 configuration to the United States military.
The LITENING G4 features advanced 1K sensors, laser imaging and advanced image processing. It provides aircrew and ground forces with combat identification, range recognition and situational awareness.
Its technologies include digital, high-definition video, 1K forward-looking infrared and charge-coupled device sensors, short wave infrared laser imaging, color symbology, tracker improvements and enhanced zoom.
"LITENING's unique design has allowed us to rapidly and affordably insert the latest technologies, keeping the warfighter and aircraft highly relevant in today's complex and evolving scenarios," said Jim Mocarski, vice president, Airborne Tactical Sensors business unit, Northrop Grumman.
"The next generation of LITENING, already in development, will provide significant capability improvements and continue to give our customers an unfair advantage in the fight." Mocarski added.
