Rheinmettal has won a €130 million contract from Lockheed Martin UK to supply turret structures for the British Army’s new Scout SV Reconnaissance vehicle.

Rheinmettal will produce up to 245 units, the company said in a statement Monday.

Lockheed Martin awarded a US $ 1 billion contract to General Dynamics  to design, manufacture, integrate and test all 245 turrets in November last year.

The first prototype turrets are to be handed over to the British Army in 2017.

The Scout Specialist Vehicle (SV) is a medium-weight armored reconnaissance vehicle. It will replace the British Army's Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) CVR(T) - family of vehicles, which have been in service since the 1970s, and is intended for use in all current and future scenarios, ranging from peace enforcement and peacekeeping missions to high-intensity combat operations.

Rheinmetall has been in charge first of design and engineering, and now of producing, the turret structure and weapon mount (TSWM) for the Scout SV Base 40mm medium-caliber turret solution. The first production unit is scheduled for July 2016.
