Israel Completes Sikorsky CH-53 Rotorcraft Upgrade

Israel has completed upgrading its Sikorsky CH-53 heavy-lift rotorcraft fleet of 23.

The modernization program launched in 2006 cost an approximate $2 million per unit and the upgraded helicopters will be able to fly in 2025.

The modifications comprise of new mission systems and avionics and air frame treatment.

Boeing had offered CH-47, a version of Chinook transport helicopter as a possible replacement for the Israeli CH-53 helicopters in 2012.
