Lockheed Martin has won a $240 million contract from US department of defense for enhancing reliability of the C-5 Galaxy transport aircraft and Re-Engineering program (RERP) Lot 7 installation.

Contractor will provide the final lot of 11 aircraft to the C-5M fleet, the company announced Thursday.

Work is expected to be complete by April 17, 2018.

Fiscal 2014 and 2015 aircraft procurement funds in the amount of $65 million and $174 million respectively are being obligated at the time of award.

The Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) adds a new, modern cockpit with a digital, all-weather flight control system and autopilot; a new communications suite; flat-panel displays; and enhanced navigation and safety equipment.

Enhancements such as the integrated datalink capabilities, predictive flight performance cues and situational awareness displays (the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System) greatly ease crew workload and enhance situational awareness.

AMP is the digital backbone to support RERP.
