Russia To Complete Production Testing Of Armata Tank Next Year

Russia will complete the production testing of new Armata tank in 2016.

Land forces will meet their 70 percent equipment modernization target by 2020, Russian Land Forces' commander Col. Gen. Oleg Salyukov said in Sputnik news report today.

The tank is operated by a three-member crew from an armored capsule at the front. The tank’s armament includes a 7.62mm remote-control machine gun and 125mm smoothbore cannon.

The T-14 Armata is a Russian 5th generation main battle tank based on the Armata Universal Combat Platform. It was displayed in public initially with its turret and cannon shrouded during rehearsals for the 2015 Moscow Victory Day Parade.

Even though unit costs are a concern, the Russian army plans to acquire 2,300 T-14s within next five years.

The Armata tank is also invisible to radars, the deputy director of its manufacturer, UralVagonZavod, said in an interview with the Ekho Moskvy radio station in July.
