Indian Coast Guard Commissions Patrol, Interceptor Vessels

Indian coast guard has commissioned two vessels, ICGS Apoorva Fast Patrol and Interceptor Boat C-421 into coastal security.

The ICGS Apoorva is a 50 meter long boat capable of speeding at 33 knots and can displace 317 tonnes. It is the 14th of the 20 boats that are ordered.

The vessel can carry out coastal, littoral surveillance, search and rescue and medical evacuation tasks. It is equipped with weapons and advanced communication and navigational aids.

ICGS C-421 is an interceptor boat and a water jet propelled vessel that is 27.8 meters long. The Interceptor Boat displaces 106 tonnes. It is 27th in series constructed by L&T  and is fitted with medium range armaments.

The C-421 ship has top speed of 45 knots and is designed for close coast and shallow water operations.

Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Western Naval Command, Mumbai, Vice Admiral SPS Cheema has commissioned the ships.

Both the vessels were commissioned on Monday, local media reported.
