South Korean Remoeye UAV to Spy on North

South Korea will deploy Remoeye drones to frontline army and Marine Corps units for surveillance of military activity of North Korea.

“South Korea received its first home made drone manufactured by UCON system today,” Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) was quoted as saying by Xinhua news daily Wednesday.

Remoeye-002B, mini-drone measures 1.8 meters wide and 1.4 meters long and weighs 3.4 kilograms. It can conduct the surveillance mission for more than an hour at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour. It can shoot images within a radius of 10 kilometers day and night, and the images can be transmitted on a real-time basis.

The drone had been developed with an indigenous technology for three years from 2012, the arms procurement agency said, noting that there was a high possibility for the drone to be exported due to great capability.

Seoul plans to deploy the drone for surveillance missions to frontline army units and Marine Corps troops along the land and sea borders till 2017.
