Boeing plans to start delivery of the Chinook and Apache helicopters to India by 2018.
The $3 billion deal is set to be completed by 2020, sources close to the deal were quoted as saying by the Wall Street Journal Thursday.
India pledged to buy 37 helicopters from Boeing last week. The Indian defense ministry signed a contract to buy 15 CH-47F Chinook heavy lift helicopters and 22 AH-64E Apache multi-role combat helicopters. The deal also includes an additional option to buy seven Chinook and 11 Apache helicopters.
The Boeing contract also includes engines from General Electric Co. and Hellfire missiles from Lockheed Martin.
