Russian Defense Ministry Official Arrested On Bribery Charges

Russian law enforcement authorities have arrested a defense ministry official on charges of attempting to obtain 48 million rubles (US $67 thousand) bribe.

The authorities arrested the director of department of audit of state contracts of the defense ministry, Dmitry Shortfall on allegations of corruption.

The essence of claims to a high-ranking official little is known, however, it is clear that allegations of corruption are directly linked to the performance Shortfall. 

“Shortfall’s department monitors the compliance of the rules of formation of prices in the implementation of the Ministry of defense functions of the state procurement under the state defense order. The Shortfall subordinates are involved in determining initial prices for government contracts, carry out monitoring and analysis of the prices of deliveries of goods, examine the validity of price forecasts and so forth, and clarify the issue,” Kommersat reported quoting Interfax news agency Tuesday.

According to the report, “three people who are accused of paying large bribes are arrested. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the Russians Bauman, Davydov and Kuznetsova.
