Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) is showcasing a tiltrotor drone at South Korea’s drone festival opened on Thursday in Busan for a three-day run.
Developed in collaboration with Korean Air, Tiltrotor "KUS-VT" drone can take off and land vertically but can shift their engine geometry to fly like aeroplanes, similar to the Bell Boeing Osprey on a show at the Busan festival.
Korea Electronics Technology Institute is exhibiting a new drone technology in the combination of a drone and the Internet of Things (IoT), which refers to a communication network among various objects through the Internet.
China’s largest drone manufacturer DJI is also present at the show with its newest drone, Yonhap news reported Thursday.
An official from the exhibition center was quoted as saying that drone markets will heat up in the future, with countries around the globe racing to roll out better performing unmanned aerial vehicles.
But in Korea, most of the drones sold are for industrial use, or for rescue missions or fighting fires. As a result, Korea's drone market is worth only about 10 billion won ($8.28 million), which is 0.5 percent of the total global market, drone industry sources were quoted as saying in the Yonhap report.
