Julian Assange To Accept Arrest If UN Rules Against Him

In a letter published on justice4assange.com, Julian Assange Thursday said that he is ready to get arrested if the United Nations rules that he has lost the case against the United Kingdom and Sweden.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention will announce its verdict in Julian Assange v Sweden and the United Kingdom on Friday, 5 February 2016. Julian Assange submitted a complaint against Sweden and the United Kingdom to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on 12 September 2014. Assange has spent over three years in the embassy of Ecuador.

If it finds that the detention is unlawful, the WGAD will order that he be released immediately and compensated.

In a letter published on Wikileaks twitter (micro blogging) account, Assange writes from the Eucadorian Embassy, “Should the UN announce tomorrow that I have lost my case against the UK and Sweden, I shall exit the embassy at noon on Friday to accept arrest by British Police as there is no meaningful prospect of further appeal. However, should I prevail and the state parties be found to have acted unlawfully, I expect the immediate return of my passport and the termination of further attempts to arrest me.”
