North Korea Executes Chief Of Military Staff Citing Graft

North Korea has executed the Chief of its military on corruption and other charges earlier this month.

Army General Ri Yong Gil, Chief of Staff of the Korean People’s Army faced charges of pursuing personal gain and was executed, Yonhap news agency quoted unnamed sources familiar with the DPRK affairs as saying Wednesday.

North Korea has executed a number of officials on charges ranging from graft to watching South Korean soap operas since 2011.

Pyongyang reportedly executed a head of operations for the army, General Pyon In Son in January 2015 for disagreeing with Kim Jong Un and former defense minister Hyon Yong Chol was executed supposedly for dozing off at a rally.
