Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has displayed a model of the Yak-152 propeller-driven basic trainer at the Singapore Airshow 2016.
This is the first time the model is being displayed at an international event. The Yak-152 forms the basis of a fighter pilot training concept which includes the Yak-130 advanced combat trainer and simulators.
Irkut Corp., the manufacturer of the Yak-130 and Yak-152 expects the latter to attract interest from countries which have already purchased the Yak-130 such as Algeria, Belarus and Bangladesh.
With a basic trainer in place, UAC and Irkut will be able to offer a comprehensive training solution from start-up to advanced combat training with air to air and air to ground weapons.
The Yak-152 competes with the likes of basic trainers from Beechcraft, Pilatus and Lockheed Martin. The T-50 propeller-drive trainer developed by Lockheed Martin and Korea Aerospace Industries recently announced its entry for U.S competition for trainers.
