Mitsubishi has delivered the "Jinryu" submarine to the Japanese Ministry of Defense (MOD) in a ceremony held at the MHI Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works' No.3 pier in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture.

The Jinryu is the seventh Soryu-class submarine supplied to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), and the fourth built by MHI, the company said in a statement Monday.

Soryu-class submarines are conventionally powered submarines. They have an excellent operational track record and are equipped with technologies, including air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems that enable them to remain fully submerged for long periods of time, and stealth technologies that make them difficult to detect.
