Lockheed Martin has won $20 million contract for the production and support of Acoustic Rapid Commercial off-the-shelf Insertion (A-RCI) systems for the US submarine fleet.
A-RCI is a sonar system that integrates and improves towed array, hull array, sphere array, and other ship sensor processing, through rapid insertion of commercial off-the-shelf-based hardware and software, US Department of Defense said in a statement Thursday.
This modification provides for continued A-RCI Technology Insertion-14 hardware deliveries. The work is expected to be completed by March 2019.
To help the submarine fleet maintain up-to-date technology, the US Navy awarded Lockheed Martin a contract to provide sonar system upgrades through an open architecture business model that uses commercial technology.
