Algerian Navy Commissions First Of Two Meko A200 Frigates
MEKO A-200 AN Frigate for Algerian Navy

The Algerian Navy has commissioned the first of two Meko A200 frigates after it was delivered on April 19, 2016.

The second vessel is due for delivery in 2017. The first vessel was launced on 5 December 2014 at the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) yard in Germany. The frigate, Erradii (910) arrived in the port of Algiers and was commissioned by the Chief-of-staff of the military and deputy defense minister Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah along with Super Lynx helicopters.

The Algerian MoD said that the vessel is as per the Navy’s modernization plan and will enhance defense capabilities of the military.

Algeria ordered two frigates with an option for additional two in March 2012. The frigates are equipped with Saab Sea Giraffe Agile multi-beam 3D surveillance radar, CEROS 200 radar/electro-optical fire control directors, Thales Kingklip sonar, OTO Melara 127/64 light weight 127mm naval gun, MSI-Defense 30 mm cannons, Rheinmetall Mass softkill decoy launchers, Denel Umkhonto-IR missiles, MU90 torpedoes and Saab/Diehl RBS 15 Mk3 anti-ship missiles.
