Russia does not plan to deliver the S-300 air defense missile systems to Syria.

"There are no such plans as of today," head of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Alexander Fomin told reporters on Tuesday answering a question whether the possibility of supplying these weapons systems to Syria was negotiated.

In 2014, the Syrian government turned to Moscow with a request to supply the S-300 air defense missile systems to Syria due "to a possible US attack" on the country, TASS reported Tuesday.

The S-300 is a series of highly capable, long-range surface-to-air missile complexes first deployed in the USSR in 1979 and later modified by the Russian armed forces. As well as targeting aircraft, the fully mobile units have the capacity to engage ballistic missiles.
