Syrian air defense forces claim to have shot at an Israeli warplane and a drone in response to Israeli air strike against a Syrian artillery battery on Tuesday.
Tel Aviv conducted an air strike against a Syrian artillery battery after at least four shells strayed into the Golan from battles between the Syrian army and rebels in the Quneitra sector, DebkaFile reported Wednesday.
However, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) immediately refuted the report, saying a Syrian anti-aircraft battery had shot at its aircraft but missed their target.
"Early this morning, two missiles were launched from Syria after the IAF targeted Syrian artillery positions," a spokesperson was quoted as saying by Independent Tuesday. "IDF aircraft were not harmed."
The Syrian media quoting sources from their military, did not reveal anything about the Israeli plane; whether it was downed or whether it was shot at but not downed.
The Syrian media acknowledged the Israeli attack. Syria has shotoff a letter to the UN Secretary General and the Security Council’s Head stating that attacks prove that Israel has a strategic alliance with the armed terrorist groups, particularly Jabhat al-Nusra.
“In the early morning of Tuesday, the Israeli enemy’s air force attacked Syrian military positions in the countryside of the southern Quneitra province. The Syrian air defense forces responded to the attack and shot down an Israeli warplane to the southwest of Quneitra and an Israeli drone to the west of Sa’sa’ town in the south-western countryside of Damascus,” Sana, the official Syrian government website, reported quoting the Syrian defence ministry as saying.
