Russia’s two Gepard 3.9 frigates will arrive in the Black Sea for trials by next month.

Further, the frigates can also be used for conducting escort missions and carrying out of patrol duties as well as to provide fire support to landing missions and mine-laying.

Two Gepard-class frigates will arrive in the Black Sea to pass final trials that will complete before the end of the year. Following the tests, the ships will be exported to the customer country, Sputnik News reported.

Built at the A.M. Gorky Zelenodolsk Plant, the vessel can also be used for guarding and patrolling maritime state borders and exclusive economic zones as well as supporting sea operations.

These vessels are capable of employing their weapons systems in conditions up to Sea State 5. The ship’s hull and superstructure is made up of steel, and the upper superstructure is made up of some aluminium-magnesium. They are equipped with fin stabilizers and twin rudders, and can use either gas turbines or diesel for propulsion in a Combined diesel or gas (CODOG) configuration.
