Nigeria is planning to collaborate with Israel in tackling cyber crimes and providing Home Land Security in the country.

The two countries, at a Sensitization Dinner on Thursday in Abuja, discussed the risks of cyber crime to all sectors of the country. They agreed to work together to tackle it.

“Israel, as a country, has suffered from cyber attacks; it is not a problem for us but a challenge. Th‎is is because we have the technology and human resources to deal with the challenge,’’ Guy Feldman, the Israeli ambassador to Nigeria was quoted as saying by The Cable Friday.

He stressed the need to deploy hi-tech technology, surveillance cameras and security gadgets to strategic sectors of the nation such as the financial and oil sectors.

Aviad Marco, an Israeli security expert, who delivered a lecture on the efforts at tackling cyber crime, described the phenomenon as a new form of terrorism. The activities of hackers, especially on sensitive database, could bring a country down if not checkmated, Marco said.

The cyber security will continue to be major issue across in all the nations for which collaboration is required, speaking at the occasion, Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau said.

Dambazau who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Brigadier-General Bala Saleh at the event, said Nigeria will benefit from Israel's technical advancement in security. "It is hoped that the huge intellectual human capital which our country is well known for, will benefit from this collaboration to generate similar technological capacity which our Israeli friends brings to the table." He added.

Nigeria stands to benefit a lot from the collaboration, stressing that "Israel cyber solutions cover a range of threats on all communication and information entities." The Israeli defence expert said.
