Ukranian aircraft manufacturer Antonov has offered to sell one of its aircraft as a replacement for Air Force one plane after the newly elected US President Donald Trump said that brand new Boeing 747 is outrageously expensive.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Trump said that Air Force one aircraft’s development costs are ‘out of control’. “Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!,” Trump tweeted.
The official account of the Ukrainian firm then tweeted in reply to Trump: “May be it is better to consider Antonov aircraft as Air Force One?”.
There was no immediate response from the future president, who is known for his unpredictable tweets.
To date, no contract for the building of the new aircraft has been signed between the Obama Administration and Boeing. So far, all that the Administration has done is pay Boeing $170 million to determine the feasibility of building a new fleet of White House aircraft, including a new Air Force One.
