Final batch of Russian Su-34 fighter bombers has arrived this year at the Eastern Military District's air unit in the region of Khabarovsk.

"Several new Su-34 fighter bombers have flown over 3,500 kilometers from Novosibirsk to the airfield of permanent basing after refueling at the airport Domna," head of the Eastern Military District press service Col. Alexander Gordeyev was quoted as saying by cctv.com Friday.

The Su-34 fighter bombers would be put into operation at the beginning of 2017, the military officer Gordeyev added.

Sukhoi Su-34 fighter bombers are designed to hit ground targets as well as naval ones. The fighters are also capable of hitting even small mobile targets and aerial targets in daytime and at night under both favorable and adverse weather conditions.

Established in 2010 and headquartered in the eastern Khabarovsk region, the Eastern Military District covers the former Far Eastern Military District and part of the former Siberian Military District.
