Brazil To Decommission Sole Aircraft Carrier
Brazilian Navy's Sao Paulo A-12 aircraft Carrier

The Brazilian Navy will decommission its sole aircraft carrier, A-12 Sao Paulo, purchased from France in 2000 as the modernization costs are considered excessive by the government.

The ship was bought by the then-president Fernando henriquw for US $12 million, Estado reported Wednesday.

"The modernization of the ship would exceed R $1 billion (US$327 million) mark and was considered excessive by the Admiralty," Defense Minister Raul Jungmann and President Michel Temer have been informed of the decision.
