India's Defense Acquisition Council Clears Procurement Of 38 Radar Stations

India’s Defence Acquisition Council has cleared two AON (Acceptance of Necessity) today apart from approving the creation of 38 radar stations along the country’s coastal line in its meeting headed by defense minister.

The sanctioned cost of the project is Rs 8,00 crore (US$119.4 million) and would include four mobile surveillance systems, Economic Times reported today

The Acceptance of Necessity is Intermediate level engine repair facility of the MiG 29. It is shore based facility, at naval aircraft yard, Goa.

Another Acceptance of necessity is Continuation of Coastal Surveillance System, IInd Phase. These are static sensor chain for gap-less electronic surveillance. This will be under the ‘Buy Indian' category and BEL is proposed to be the lead integrator. Its cost will be Rs 800 crore. 38 additional Radar Stations and 4 mobile surveillance stations will come under this project.

It will be integrated with the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) sites in Gulf of Kutch and Khambatt. There are 46 such stations as of now and these were also made by BEl.
