The US Army will soon experiment using a 60 kW laser for air defence missions as part of its plan to integrate it on its High Energy Laser Mobile Test Truck (HELMTT).

In April the army expects to receive new laser to integrate on its HELMTT, formerly known as the High Energy Laser Mobile Demonstrator, IHS Jane's 360 reported today.

"The SMDC is ultimately working towards a 100 kW laser," Richard DeFatta director of the Future Warfare Center at US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) said.

The HELMTT is a technology integration and demonstration effort with a laser system, beam control system, and supporting subsystems integrated into a large tactical vehicle.
