Rauma Marine Constructions Wins Finnish Ship Design Contract
Finnish Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö

Finnish Defence Forces' Logistics Command to sign a 7.5 million Euro design contract with Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC), with the aim to construct the vessels of the Squadron 2020 project

Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö has authorised the contract.  The design contract follows the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the Defence Forces and RMC in September 2016, Finnish Ministry of Defense said in a statement Friday.

The design process included in the contract further defines the vessel concept and produces the basic design material which is required for manufacturing the vessels. The contract to actually construct the vessels is scheduled to be signed in the course of 2018.

Industrial expertise will be bolstered and security of supply in times of crisis will be ensured when the design phase is done in Finland.

The Squadron 2020 project is about replacing seven vessels which have been or are scheduled to be decommissioned and upgrading their capabilities to counter modern threats.
