Nigerian Ports Authority To Buy Nine Patrol Boats For $4 Million

Nigeria will order nine patrol boats in 2017 to patrol harbours and waterways for $4 million.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has allotted a defense budget of N233.8 billion ($733 million) and will include acquisition of nine patrol boats.

The authority needs new boats to patrol the nation’s harbours and waterways. Nine boats will be bought for a total cost of N1.3 billion ($4 million), each costing about $470000, NPA Director Hadiza Bala-Usman was quoted as saying during the budget presentation by Defenseweb Monday.

The models, capabilities and the suppliers for the boats were not mentioned in her presentation. The authority will hire patrol boats until the acquisition takes place. The rest of the budget will be used for port infrastructure development.

The NPA is also expected to take delivery of a Floating Production Storage Offloading Vessel (FPSOV) which is being built South Korean giant Samsung Shipyards, a divison of Samsung Heavy Industries. The vessel has an expected delivery date of June 2017.
