US Forces’ Korea division will be handed with task of gathering human intelligence from North Korea regime.
The US intends to accomplish operative measures involving collecting human intelligence and performing counter-espionage tasks to support the main South Korean and US forces.
It will gain intelligence by using a secret agent in the despot nation or by infiltrating operatives on the heavily guarded Korean border.
"Gathering intelligence through wiretapping and satellite imagery has its limitations, so the missing pieces of the puzzle must be solved through human intelligence," a military official said.
Hardly there is information available on Kim Jong-un's nuclear arsenal, other than what North Korean controlled media has released on it. Even the US has unclear information on how developed the North's ICBM is and how many nuclear warhead the isolated kingdom has.
Even though USFK operates arsenal of weapons and equipment to monitor and spy on North Korea, it lacks human intelligence, which makes it difficult to gather and analyse accurate information about the North.
"It looks like there was a realisation of the importance of bolstering it," he added.
In October, the 524th Military Intelligence Battalion will be set up. Work is also in the process to create an organisation in US government to deal solely with North Korean intelligence.
