Irkut MC-21 Commences Taxiing Tests

Irkut Corporation continues preparations for the flight testing of the first prototype of MC-21 airliner and has announced commencement of its taxiing tests.

Within the frame of preparation for the maiden flight, the aircraft systems are being checked, ground starts of major and auxiliary power plants are being practiced, taxiings are being performed at the plant’s airfield, the press release states.

Preparation for the start of flight tests is being performed in accordance with the approved schedule, the release added.

The MC-21 is a new family of airliners unveiled by Russia on June 8, 2016. Its manufacturer, Irkut Corporation claims lower operating costs and higher seating capacity as compared to its main competitors such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
