The EU's task force Battle Group 11 will use Saab's BMS system, also known as SLB, as management support for ground forces. The announcement was made after concluding an evaluation of three alternatives.>> The project surrounding Saab's Battalion Management System (SLB) has been ongoing since 2006, its purpose being to develop the next generation of management support systems for ground forces. Intensive development work began just before summer. During the autumn, several demonstrations were carried out all of which were successful. It was recently announced that the Armed Forces had chosen SLB for the management support of ground forces in the EU's task force Battle Group 11.>> "This really is a significant breakthrough for our BMS efforts, both in Sweden and in the global market place," says Peter Wimmerstrm, Saab Systems Business Unit Manager.>> What is unique about SLB is that, for example, all ground troops can use the same system instead of several different ones. This means reduced training and maintenance costs for the users. The system has been developed in principle for network based defence, where all information is made available in all installations. Furthermore, the system is scalable from soldier up to brigade staff and is configurable for every conceivable role and special applications. This is what makes SLB a complete system.>> -ends->
