AESA Radar For South Korea's KF-X Fighter Jet Unveiled
South Korea has unveiled an advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar prototype for its home-grown K-FX fighter jet program.
South Korea’s state-run Agency for Defense Development (ADD) conducted various tests of the mock-up version of the AESA radar run by Hanwha Systems, Korea Herald reported Thursday.
Among the test conducted were AESA’s detection capabilities. With a 120-degree detection range, AESA acquired mock-up targets by transmitting electronic wave. Consisting of about 1000 modules, AESA is able to detect a target as small as a one-meter-long object, according to ADD officials.
“Our current goal is to figure out what kinds of risk we will face,” an official from Defense Acquisition Program Administration was quoted as saying by the news daily. “We will verify our capability through upcoming flight test. If there is no issue, we will be good to go.”
