Russian demining experts dismantled over 1500 IEDs left behind by ISIS terrorists in Deir Ezzor, Russian Defense Ministry said.

In statement on Friday, the Ministry said “Experts from the International Mine Action Center are currently operating on roads, roadsides, and in buildings near Deir ez-Zor in order to ensure safe passage of humanitarian convoys sent to the city”.

“Some 1,000 explosives including 100 improvised ones have been unearthed and eliminated,” the statement says.

The experts are using the latest IMP-S2 mine detectors, INVU-3M portable non-contact explosive detectors, OKO-2 radar subsurface sounding devices.  The clearing detachment is equipped with the latest BTR-82AM APCs and Typhoon and Rys armored vehicles, in addition to the Uran-6 multi-functional mine-clearing robot, the ministry noted.

“A contingent of over 170 personnel of Russia’s International Mine Action Center, 40 special-purpose and engineering vehicles, and 10 mine-sweeping teams has been deployed to Syria,” the ministry said.

Over the first few days of their work in Deir Ezzor, the Russian demining experts dismantled more than 1500 “explosive objects”, including a hundred improvised explosive devices, demining 8 kilometers (5 miles) of roads and 3 hectares of land, according to the statement.
