India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has transferred technology of Bullet Proof Jacket (BPJ) to an Indian firm, MKU Limited for manufacturing these for the Indian Army and Para-military forces.
Documents related to the technology and licence agreement were handed over at a function held in New Delhi today.
The Indian Army General Staff Qualitative Requirement (GSQR) No: - 1438 BPJ technology has been developed by Defence Materials & Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), a laboratory of DRDO. This technology is challenging and one of the most significant matured personal protection systems developed by DRDO among the various GSQRs of Indian Army meeting NIJ III+ Standard.
The NIJ III+ Standard refers to the protection level of the BPJ against 7.62mm bullet fired from an assault rifle.
MKU is a leading manufacturer and exporter of BPJs in India and has supplied thousands of sets of BPJs to Indian and international armed forces.
