IAF Mi-17 V5 Chopper Crashes Killing Seven Personnel

An Indian Air Force Mi-17 V5 helicopter crashed Friday morning near Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh killing seven people.

Five of those killed were Indian Air Force personnel and two were Army officials.

The helicopter reportedly crashed around 6 am Friday while it was on an air maintenance mission. The chopper was flying in Tawang sector, bordering China.

The Indian Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the crash in order to ascertain its cause.

The Mi-17 V5 is a Russian-made military transport helicopter and is often in disaster relief operations, especially floods. The Mi-17 V5 was most recently deployed in Gujarat and Rajasthan for flood relief operations.
