Indonesia displayed the Kaplan medium-weight tank made by local firm, PT Pindad and FNSS Savunma Sistemleri from Turkey at the National Armed Forces Day parade on 5 October in Cilegon, Banten Province.

The first prototype KAPLAN MT, designed and developed in Turkey in collaboration with leading Indonesian armored vehicle manufacturer PT Pindad and FNSS Defense Systems, was exported to Indonesia in September.

KAPLAN MT was developed to meet the Indonesian armed forces' demands for a modern, medium-weight tank. Pindad aims to produce 20 tanks by the end of 2018.

“This project is the proof that we can produce high technology defense vehicles with our own efforts without being dependent on other countries,” Abraham Mose, Chairman of PT Pindad told Anadolu Agency.

Based on FNSS’ Kaplan chassis, the Kaplan MT is equipped with a CMI Cockerill 3105 turret armed with a Cockerill 105 mm main gun, autoloader and digital fire-control system. It also has a 7.62 coaxial machine gun, battlefield management system and laser warning system.
