Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) and PT PAL Indonesia have delivered the second SIGMA PKR class frigate to the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) on Monday.
The SIGMA 10514 PKR class is a multi-mission platform equipped for anti-ship warfare (AShW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-air warfare (AAW).
Indonesia ordered the two SIGMA 10514 frigates from DSNS in 2012. The ships were built in Indonesia by PT PAL in collaboration with DSNS. DSNS’ had transferred technology to PT-PAL, such as key infrastructure, expertise and human resources training.
The lead ship, the KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata, was commissioned into the TNI-AL fleet in April. The second ship, which will be named I Gusti Ngurah Rai, was launched for sea trials in September of last year. Like its preceding sister-ship, the KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai has a length of 105.11 m, width of 14.2 m, a top speed of 28 knots and range of 5,000 nm.
The PKR-class’ sensor suite includes the Thales SMART-S Mk2 3D radar and STIR 1.2 radar/electro-optical tracking system. It also uses the TACTICOS combat management system. In terms of armaments, the PKR-class is configured with a Leonardo 76/62 Super Rapid gun, MBDA VL-MICA surface-to-air missile (SAM), MBDA Exocet MM40 Block-3 anti-ship missiles (AShM) and 324 mm ASW torpedoes.
