Argentina Deploys Border Control Systems

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has recently completed the installation of the first secured border crossing in Argentina.

IAI, through its Electronic Defense Group ELTA Systems (IAI/ELTA), has completed the first part of the installation at the La Quiaca border crossing and has delivered it to the Argentinean Home Security Ministry, for use by the Gendarmeria, Argentina's border guard. The next border crossings awaiting installation are Salvador Mazza, Aguas Blancas and Puerto Iguazu.

IAI/ELTA provided a large-scale, integrated ground system with various radars, EO/IR and additional surveillance sensors, communication systems, command and control systems. The next phases will include provision of unmanned aerial systems, including several BirdEye650D Small Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems (STUAS), several mini-UAV BirdEye400 and HoverMast100 systems . In addition, a range of other sensors, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance vehicles (ELI-3302 Granite ISRV) as well as a variety of different radars, EO/IR and additional surveillance sensors will be provided too. The system consists of both fixed towers and mobile stations, enabling versatile operation of the ground forces. Cyber solutions were integrated into the system for early detection and identification of various threats near the border. The information collected from the sensors is sent in real time to the control systems in each border crossing while a centralized system fuses the data into a complete picture which is forwarded to a central command.

Major General (Ret) Gadi Shamni, Executive Vice President of Land Systems at IAI, said, "The integration of IAI's intelligence tools provides Argentina with a novel approach to border control and grappling with multiple challenges faced by many countries. IAI's land systems offer a range of strategic and tactical solutions targeting multiple threats. We combine technological expertise, advanced communication solutions and innovative operational concepts into a comprehensive solution."

In addition to better-equipped crossings, Argentina's border guard will now benefit from a control center that compiles all information received from various sensors in real time, displaying a complete picture that captures and manages maximum surveyed areas and intelligence information.
